2006 Season Review

FIA GT3 Rd 5&6 - Spa - into the Bus Stop.jpgI think the best way to sum up 2006 would be "fantastic experience, shame about the results".  On the (very) positive side I got to race in the first season of one of Europe's most exciting sportscar championships, driving arguably the most beautiful car on the grid around some fabulous circuits! Now that really can't be too bad, right ...?  On top of that I know I put in some very strong, consistent drives, climbing up a large number of places when required and proving I can hold my own at this level.

Unfortunately the frustration with the season is borne from the fact that, try as we might, the results simply refused to come and the tally at the end of the season was one "best Aston" trophy and a solitary championship point - both from the very first race!! OK, I've written all this so it's biased, but hopefully if you read the official team reports you'll agree that's a harsh set of results that should have been much better, but there was little I could personally have done to improve it ...!

However, the year was to end on a very successful note at Barcelona with aone-off drive in the International GT Open Championship.  Partnering Johnny Lang in the Damax Ascari KZ1R wewon the GT3 class by over a minute to give both Ascari and yours-truly a first European victory.  You should have been there ... :-)
